Lower Antelope Canyon is one of the most photographed places on earth, and a little preparation goes a long way toward making your visit smooth and memorable. Here is what we tell every guest before they arrive.
Dress for the Terrain
The trail into the canyon is composed of Navajo sandstone, making the descent both rocky and sandy. We strongly recommend closed-toe walking shoes with good traction. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and dress in layers, since temperatures can vary throughout the day.
Know What Is Not Allowed
Per Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation regulations, a few items are not permitted inside Lower or Upper Antelope Canyon:
- Backpacks and bags of any kind
- Tripods, selfie sticks, and monopods
- Video recording
Good news: you can leave your backpack in our Sprinter van during the canyon portion, and loose items are welcome again at Horseshoe Bend, on the boat tour, and during flights.
Photography Tips
Handheld photography without flash is allowed and encouraged to be quick, so everyone can enjoy the experience. The light shifts constantly, so trust your guide: they know exactly where and when the canyon looks its best.
Arrive Early
Please plan to check in at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure. It gives you time to settle in, meet your guide, and start the day relaxed rather than rushed.
